WHAT IS LA FLEX FUNDING?
LA Flex Funding is an initiative that expands upon ECO Funding, with eligibility criteria established by Local Authorities in their Statement of Intent. While the specifics of the criteria differ across Local Authorities, the primary objective is to increase the number of households eligible for heating and insulation grants. For any grant to be considered, a Statement of Intent must be published on the Local Authority's website.
There are four possible routes to eligibility, depending on your Local Council:
Route 1: If your household has an EPC rating of E, F, or G, and an annual gross household income of less than £31,000, you may qualify for funding, regardless of the size, composition, or location of your property.
Route 2: If your household has an EPC rating of E-G, you may qualify by meeting two of the following criteria: living in a Lower-layer Super Output Area 1-3 (LSOA) in England or LSOA 1-3 on the Welsh Index of Multiple Deprivation 2019 or the Index of Multiple Deprivation for 2020 in Scotland; receiving a Council Tax rebate; being identified as vulnerable to living in a cold home according to the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) Guidance; receiving free school meals due to low income; being supported by a LA-run scheme; or being referred to the LA for support by your energy supplier or Citizen's Advice or Citizen’s Advice Scotland.
Route 3: If your household has an EPC rating of D-G and has been identified by your doctor or GP as low-income and vulnerable, with an occupant whose health conditions may be further impacted by living in a cold home (e.g., cardiovascular, respiratory, immunosuppressed, or mobility-related health issues), you may qualify for funding.
Route 4: If your household has an EPC rating of D-G and is deemed low-income and vulnerable, but does not meet the criteria under the previous routes, your supplier or Local Authority may apply to BEIS for funding.
If you are interested in exploring your eligibility for LA Flex Funding, you can enquire today to see if it is available in your area. However, please note that you will only qualify for free central heating if you do not already have a gas boiler with radiators.
